Les Mis #1
After reading the first chapter the book seems to be very interesting. I read that Myriel is seventy years old and that he was son of a councillor of parliament of Aix. The writer describes Myriel as a well formed short in stature, elegant, graceful, and intelligent man. When the revolution came along he emigrated to Italy from France where his wife would die. After the death of his wife and no longer having any one he became a priest. He was appointed bishop of Digne by the emperor. I would say that he was able to make the lose of his wife his motivation to keep going and become a priest. After he was appointed he goes over to Digne accompanied by Mademoiselle Baptistine. There the writer describes Mademoiselle Baptistine who was a spinster as a very lean lady with hardly any body to her. He also talks about the servant Madame Magloire which on the other hand was a small fat lady who had asthma. Myriel is installed in the episcopal and the town now waits to see its bishop at work.
